When Is the Right Time to Get Car Servicing? Read On

Posted on

Your car needs to be serviced routinely to increase its longevity and retain its optimal performance. The period depends on the manufacturer's guidelines, but you can also look out for some signs. Here is when to get car servicing.

Warning Lights on the Dashboard

The lights on your dashboard indicate the functionality of various car parts. The lights represent oil pressure, engine temperature, tire pressure, anti-lock brakes, battery light, engine, and fuel indicator among others. For instance, if the engine light appears, it could be due to engine overheating, and so you should get professional help early enough before your car breaks down.

If you experience a red light on your dashboard, you should get immediate help. Don't drive any farther, but instead call for roadside assistance. If any of your dashboard symbols illuminates a yellow or orange light, you should head to the nearest auto mechanic for servicing. A green or blue light usually indicates that a particular system is on, and thus, you should have it checked.

Braking Problems

The easiest way to tell if you have a braking problem is if the brake light on the dashboard is on. However, other signs can also alert you. For example, if you hear strange noises, such as screeching, when you apply brakes. This could be due to brake pad wear or lack of lubrication.

Other signs are vibration or wobbling, a soft brake pedal, leaking fluid, or the vehicle pulling to one side when braking. If you experience any of these signs, you should get car servicing immediately.

Ignition Problems

Over time, if a car is not well maintained, it can develop ignition problems. This can cause failure to start, difficulty turning the key, no noise from the starter motor, or vehicle stalls. These problems can be due to a problem in the ignition switch or starter motor, and thus you should seek professional help to get the right service.

Gear Problems

Common gear problems are grinding noises when shifting gears, difficulty changing gears, gear slipping, or a burning smell from the gearbox. These problems are due to different reasons, such as worn-out clutch plates, overheated transmission fluid, damaged shift fork, or a dysfunctional clutch linkage. Hence, you should take your car for servicing to solve them before they lead to further damage.

Reduced Comfort When Driving

If you start to feel bumps and tyres scraping, you should consider car servicing. This could be a problem with the suspension system.

Professional car maintenance is necessary if you want your car to serve you efficiently for years. If you experience any of these signs, it's time to get car servicing.
