How to Ensure That Your Caravan Is Ready for the Season Ahead

Posted on

If you are "a travellin' man" (or woman), you may be looking forward to hooking up your caravan to the back of your ute and setting off for a family adventure. It may have been some time since you last hit the open road, however and you need to get your caravan in tiptop shape before the season truly begins. As it's been sitting in the shed over the off-season, you've got quite a bit of work ahead of you and will need to grasp the nettle as soon as possible. Where do you start with this process?

Begin with Evictions

Firstly, you may have to get rid of all the squatters who will have taken up residence when you weren't around. Unfortunately, this could include some spiders and even snakes and you need to be cautious as you have a look around. Go slowly and carefully and use a long-handled broom, sturdy boots and gloves. If you find that you have some serious infestation, then you may need to use some special chemicals to clear everything out.

Focusing on the Fridge

Next, you will need to deep clean everything and in particular, the fridge. A certain amount of moisture is likely to have built up in there and this could create a certain amount of mould and mildew. It goes without saying, but this needs to be carefully cleaned before you even think about using it again and while you're there, have a look at the rubber seal around the door to make sure that it is still in good condition.

Water Service

The water tank is another area that needs special attention and may need to be cleaned carefully in advance of your trip. Once you have finished cleaning, ensure that you run water through all the systems and check it for quality and taste before you depart. You don't want to discover that it's not up to standard when you are in a remote place.

Fix and Lubricate

You certainly need to have a look at all the fixtures and fittings, together with the mechanical parts to make sure that everything is attached properly. Lubricate all the latches and hinges, so that everything opens and closes as it should and do a spanner check on all the nuts and bolts.

Complicated Work

If you discover anything that needs more attention than you can offer, take the caravan in for a full service before you set out on the open road.
